Johannes Janssonius - Map of The Sovereignty of Sedan and of Raucourt, and the Provostship of Donchery - La Sovveraineté de Sedan et de Ravcovrt, et la Prevosté de Doncheri - The composition is rich in decorative elements, with a large, elaborate cartouche in the lower-left corner, framed with baroque-style flourishes, acanthus leaves, and a golden frame. At the top of the cartouche, a royal blue shield featuring the fleur-de-lis is crowned, symbolizing the region’s ties to the French monarchy. Johannes Janssonius (1588-1664) was a Dutch cartographer and publisher, active during the Golden Age of Dutch cartography. He was born in Arnhem, the Netherlands, and later moved to Amsterdam, where he expanded the publishing empire started by his father-in-law, Jodocus Hondius.
