Ephraim Chambers (c.1680–1740) & Abraham Rees (1743–1825) – Set of 2 Plates – Geometry Tab. III & IV – Copperplate Engravings with Mechanical and Mathematical Diagrams (1784–1788) - This set includes two original plates titled ”Geometry Tab. III” and ”Geometry Tab. IV, ” presenting a comprehensive visual system of geometric constructions, mechanical drawing, and applied mathematics. The first plate (Tab. III) illustrates foundational geometric forms and relationships—triangles, parallelograms, pyramids, reductions—as well as mathematical instruments and ratios. The second plate (Tab. IV) expands on this by introducing practical applications such as modular divisions, plotting scales, sectors, and measurements of curved surfaces, alongside reference tables for surveying and drafting. These engravings exemplify the clarity of mechanical drawing combined with Enlightenment-era technical precision. Ephraim Chambers (c.1680–1740) produced the first English general encyclopedia in 1728, setting a new standard for accessible, alphabetically arranged knowledge. His work was widely celebrated for its breadth and clarity.
