Thomas Salmon (1679–1767) – Traditional Costumes of Nuremberg Citizens – Copperplate Engraving from Modern History (1736–1737) - This copperplate engraving illustrates various traditional costumes worn by the citizens of Nuremberg, as described in Thomas Salmon’s Modern History, the Dutch edition published in 1736–1737. Titled Afbeelding van eenige byzondere Dragten der Neurenbergers, the scene depicts distinct social types including: (1) a city councillor with his wife, (2) a noble bridegroom and bride, (3) a Protestant minister in choir robe, and (4) a peasant couple. The figures are arranged in a stage-like setting typical of Enlightenment costume studies, intended both to document and idealize regional dress.
