In the early 50s he exhibited his first informal experimentations at the Galleria Numero in Florence. Later, together with his brother Arnaldo Pomodoro, he settled in Milan, where the cultural scene was extraordinarily active. In 1956 he was invited to his first Biennale in Venice. Together with Dorazio, Novelli, Turcato, Tancredi, Lucio Fontana and his brother Arnaldo he founded the group Continuita, experimenting the abstract between the material and the sign. Later he left the group to move towards the theme of the rational organization of the marks making a series of reliefs called Fluidita contrapposta. Starting very young with the first informal experience, Gio Pomodoro successively focuses on the great series dedicated to the Substance and the emptiness with Superfici in tensione and Folle and to geometry with Sun, Arches and Spyrals. The sun, explicitly or not, is always present in his artworks. During his life, Gio dedicates his creative energy also to painting, scenography, jewelry and design. Gio Pomodoro works are present in public and private collections all over the world, among them: New York Nelson Rockefeller Collection, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden of Washington, Kunst und Museumverein in Wuppertal, Yorkshire Sculpture Park of Wakefield, Gallerie d'Arte Moderna of Rome and Turin, Civico Museo d'Arte Contemporanea in Milano, Mexico City Modern Art, la Modern Art Collection of Jedda in Saudi Arabia, Musee d'Ixelles in Bruxelles, Fondation Veranneman in Belgium.
