Antique c1850 Setting Sun Quilt - Chintz Fabrics - Antique c1850 Setting Sun Quilt measuring 95 by 95 inches. It is comprised of 60 degree who quercitron diamonds, 2.5 inches along one side. Fabrics include a quercitron yellow print, Turkey red print, early overdyed green chintz print, and a blue with red floral chintz print. The setting squares and triangles are a floral brown chintz print. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. Thin cotton batting and a brown print reverse. The edge is finished with a brown floral print chintz applied 14” narrow binding. There is a paper label hand stitched titling the quilt Setting Sun and the name Mrs. Nelson Case Taintor. I believe that Mrs. Taintor was the owner rather than the maker. Brief research shows that Nelson Case Taintor was from Connecticut and was born in the late 19th century, this quilt is significantly earlier.
