Antique c1830 Mosaic Quilt Top - Amazing - Antique c1830 Mosaic Quilt Top 78 by 94 inches. It is comprised entirely of one inch hexagons made from chintz fabrics. The design is amazing with the arrangements of fabrics creating a kaleidoscope with stars down the center and separated by a fussy cut hexagon shaped stripe dividing the quilt top into 5 sections. Many of the fabrics are selectively cut or fussy cut so the design is in the center of the hexagon many of the fabrics appear to have originated from England. It is hand pieced on a foundation paper. Fabrics include early pinks, early purples, chintz florals, paisley, stripes, and other fabulous colors. It is in fair condition with overall toning, several spots, one area is missing 3 to 4 hexagons in the center, and some dies have gone fugitive, for example a few purples. The paper foundation on the reverse is deteriorating significantly. This wwas collected in the southern NJ shore.
