Guna Mola Panel Matched Pair Thunderbird with Flanking Spirit Jaguars - Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1970s 18 × 18 inches each Twin panels vibrantly worked mola panel in reverse appliqué, appliqué, and embroidery, depicting a central thunderbird with outstretched wings above two confronting spirit jaguars, each with distinctive embroidered eyes and rainbow chevron chest markings — a composition evoking Guna cosmological imagery of celestial and earth-realm beings. Worked in two layers of red and charcoal cotton, with extensive multicolor embroidery throughout in green, blue, yellow, orange, pink, purple, and cyan. The upper register features a repeating S-scroll border in sequenced rainbow colors with horizontal stripe accents; the field is densely filled with stacked chevron forms, vertical dash clusters, and interlocking curvilinear outlines.
