Folk Artist Floretta Emma Warfel Hand Painted Textiles - Family - Floretta Emma Warfel - Family. 31” x 43”. Unsigned, hand painted on brown fabric, this piece depicts a scene with family members gathered outside. Three kids play on the lawn while parents and another child chat on the porch. The farm is painted in the background including barn, green pickup truck, cow and horse. A narrow road stretches into the hills as the sunset sets on the farm. Born in Dushmore, PA in 1906, Floretta Emma Warfel began painting in her early sixties with the suggestion of a young neighbor. Using ballpoint tubes of paint and most often used cloth for canvas, she constructs colorful landscapes that are distorted and good humored. Mrs. Warfel's paintings combine scenes from her native Pennsylvania, memories of farm life, and a vivid imagination. For further information see, N.F.
