Signed ”Floretta Warfel” and initialed ”F.E.W.,” hand painted on blue fabric, this piece depicts 2 homes and a barn set among the trees, rolling hills, and a pond. Born in Dushmore, PA in 1906, Floretta Emma Warfel began painting in her early sixties with the suggestion of a young neighbor. Using ballpoint tubes of paint and most often used cloth for canvas, she constructs colorful landscapes that are distorted and good humored. Mrs. Warfel's paintings combine scenes from her native Pennsylvania, memories of farm life, and a vivid imagination. For further information see, N.F.
