Antique British Iron Hilted Naval Cutlass - An antique British naval cutlass or hanger, likely dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. The weapon features a broad, single-edged iron blade with a slight curve and a clipped point. The hilt is constructed of iron and features a simple D-shaped stirrup guard with a slotted base where it meets the blade, and a small, flat, downturned rear quillon. The grip consists of a spiral-carved wooden core which shows evidence of having originally been covered in leather or fishskin, with portions of the original twisted wire wrap still remaining in the grooves. The hilt is finished with a rounded, globose iron pommel and a prominent tang button. There are no legible maker marks or inscriptions on the blade or hilt due to heavy surface oxidisation and pitting.
