A First World War HMS Iron Duke Teak Letter Opener Fragment - A fragment of a commemorative letter opener or page turner fashioned from teak timber salvaged from the battleship HMS Iron Duke. The item features a tapered wooden form with a rounded terminal. Inset into the face is a rectangular brass plaque secured by two pins. The plaque is stamped in uppercase serif lettering with the inscription: FROM THE TEAK OF H.M.S. IRON DUKE ADMIRAL JELLICOE'S FLAG SHIP JUTLAND 1916. HMS Iron Duke served as the flagship of the Grand Fleet and Admiral Sir John Jellicoe during the Battle of Jutland in 1916. Following the vessel's decommissioning and subsequent breaking in 1946, various commemorative items were produced from her original timbers. Length: Approximately 130mm.
