The tube contains a clear liquid and four internal glass floats of varying buoyancy, each featuring coloured glass sections in orange, yellow, green, and blue. Every float has a circular, silver-toned metal tag suspended from its base. The numbers 23 and 25 are clearly stamped on the visible tags, representing temperature gradients in degrees Celsius.
