19th Century English Country Ladder-Back Side Chair with Rush Seat - An English country vernacular side chair featuring a high ladder-back design. The backrest is composed of four decoratively shaped horizontal slats set between two upright posts, which are finished with simple turned finials. The seat is a traditional four-panel woven rush. The frame is constructed from a dark-stained hardwood, possibly oak or ash, using mortise and tenon joinery. The undercarriage features turned front legs and square-sectioned back legs, reinforced with a single turned front stretcher, two side stretchers on each side, and a single rear stretcher.
