Bidspirit auction | A mid-20th-century Japanese porcelain tea
A mid-20th-century Japanese porcelain tea set featuring hand-painted landscape scenes. The decoration includes representations of Mount Fuji, traditional dwellings, and bridges, accented with significant gilt detailing throughout. The set is crafted from thin-walled porcelain, commonly known as eggshell porcelain. A distinguishing feature is the presence of geisha lithophanes integrated into the base of the teacups, visible when held against a light source. The collection includes a teapot with lid, a lidded sugar bowl, a creamer, and several teacups, saucers, and dessert plates. The handles and rims are finished with gold-painted accents. No maker's marks are visible on the undersides.
