A SILVER SIGNET GEM
1st century BCE. 16.1x11.3x1.8 mm. 1.71 gr. Depicting a combined anchor and a double cornucopiae emblem. A Greek inscription incised in a crisscross pattern reads: ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡAC. The gem is cracked in the middle but in very good condition and very rare. Published by Gabriel Barkay, “A Signet Ring of Alexander”, Bulletin of the Anglo-Israel Archaeological Society, 1998, Vol. 16:65-69, suggesting, based on the comparison to the Hasmonean coins, as belonging to King Alexander Jannaeus.
