A Pair of Royal Air Force Air Ministry Heavy Pattern Seal Punches by Sealfast Ltd, dated 1955 - A pair of mid-20th-century Royal Air Force (RAF) ground equipment tools, identified as heavy pattern seal punches for inspection and unit identification. Manufactured by Sealfast Ltd., 39 St. James's Place, London, these manual plier-style tools are constructed from cast and machined steel with a bright plated finish. They were utilised by ground crew for crimping or punching metal seals to indicate that equipment had been inspected or to identify specific units. The first tool is stamped with the manufacturer name SEALFAST LTD, the date 1955, a broad arrow (pheon) mark, and the Air Ministry store reference number 1B/4933. It features an original yellow adhesive paper label stating: IMPORTANT To obtain a perfect closure please ensure this Punch is CLOSED TO THE LIMIT when affixing seals. This tool includes a circular brown leather retaining strap and a buff-coloured Equipment Certified Serviceable tag attached with string. The second tool is stamped SEALFAST LTD, 1955, a broad arrow mark, and store reference number 1B/4720. It is contained within a clear plastic storage bag. The set includes an original cardboard box with a printed label for store reference number 1B/4720, specifying Sealfast Ltd as the supplier under contract number 6/Hand Tools/11305/CB.42(C).
