T Ketland & Co Brown Bess .75 Flintlock Musket(C) - T Ketland & Co BROWN BESS (India Pattern) .75 Flintlock Musket in excellent vintage condition with some wear. The bore is bright and smooth. ”S” cartouche. Thomas Ketland Sr. was as successful Birmingham gunmaker and sold firearms and other products from 1760 until his death in 1816. T. Ketland & Co. carried on until bankruptcy in 1821. This lighter and shorter (39”) was first developed for the east India Company in 1771. Historians suggest it saw limited use at the end of the American Revolution (original example at the Smithsonian). It also had a strong role in the Napolean wars and surplus guns were sold to the Mexican Army and were used at the Battle of the Alamo. Subsequently, fell into Texan hands and were used in the Mexican-American war. The gun looks complete. C&R Eligible S/N:nsn
