Rare Carleton Canoe 42 Inch Display Sample - The Carleton Canoe Co. of Old Town Maine was one of the oldest canoe manufacturers in North America starting in the 1870's. They pioneered canvas covered canoes in the 1880's. They were acquired by Old Town Canoe Co. in 1910. This handcrafted display sample is among the rarest of canoe display samples. Roger Young of Antique Model Canoes wrote that Carleton probably produced only 20 samples for their dealers. This one has been in a collection for over 50 years. It is in overall VG condition retaining all original paint on the canvas, company name decals on both sides, original interior varnish, and cane seats.
