Civil War CSA Battlefield Found Pipe Lot Bull Run - Collection of 18 discarded clay pipe heads from the mid-19th Century. Each pipe head has distinct features, with some more ornate than others. The handwritten note that accompanies them reads: ”These pipes were gathered by James Allen from the field of battle, Manassas Virginia gathered on overlook ridge, left by the glorious dead. July 27, 1861.” Known in the North as Bull Run, The First battle of Manassas occurred on July 21, 1861. This note is dated less than a week later. We believe that the note was written by a Virginian sympathetic to the Confederate cause. Great for further research!
