Imperial Japanese Navy Type 90 Flare Pistol - Imperial Japanese Navy Type 90 Double-Barrel Flare Pistol manufactured by Kayaba Kogyo Mfg. Co. The construction is robust, featuring a blackened, blued steel body and barrels with smooth, varnished wooden grips, consistent with the standard early-to-mid-production era of this model. The frame is clearly marked with the patent markings ”P A T” over ”93006” and ”NO 101355”, which are specific to Kayaba's design for the Type 90. Crucially, the top of the breech is stamped with three inspection marks: the Kayaba logo (which looks like a flower or sunburst), a Japanese character in circle, and the distinctive Naval Anchor stamp, indicating official acceptance into Imperial Japanese Navy service. The serial number ”860” is also visible near the breech. The wooden grip panels show moderate wear and feature a faded white stenciled marking. The pistol retains much of its original finish but displays field wear including scratching, scuffing, and minor pitting/surface patina. The action is mechanically sound.
