WWI US M1917 Painted Helmet 3rd Aero Squadron - This M1917 Aero Squadron helmet is complete with liner and chinstrap in excellent condition. The liner is exceptional and the central tag is also present. The leather chinstrap is supple and has no tears or rot. It is stamped “L.E.L” The rear of the helmet brim also has “L.E.L. etched into the paint. Stamped into the brim is “ZE 57”. The helmet retains its wartime rough surface finish. Painted on the front is a 3rd Aero Squadron roundel with a numeral 3 in the center. Diameter is 3”. Helmet dimensions: 12.25” x 11.25” x 4”. A very nice painted helmet. Please see photos.
