1851-1872 US First Lieutenant Epaulette Set - Pair of epaulettes for a United States Regular Army for a First Lieutenant between in the 3rd Regiment circa 1851-1872. The epaulettes are covered with gold lace with and embroidered border. The silver bullion thread “3” in the circle is for the Regiment with silver bullion thread bar above for First Lieutenant. The border near the neck is scalloped inward. Marked “Left” and “Right” on brass bracket hardware. Red Moroccan leather and silk pillows in good condition on both, with the left epaulette exhibiting some silk shattering and leather cuts and abrasion. They are in fairly good condition overall. The gold bullion main surface and edging is complete and in stable condition. The metal arcs on each side exhibit little to no scratches. The coiled gold bullion threads that hang below are in excellent condition with no kinks or loss of integrity. The gold button on the central edge of the piece has a federal eagle clutching arrows and olive branch. Each one measures 7.75” long x 5.5” wide x 5” tall. A nice Mid-19th century pair.
