Trio of WWII Theatre Made Knives W/Tooled Sheaths - Trio of theatre made knives. All made by T5 Herbert J Murawski, of Chicago, IL. Served in Co A, 606th Army Engineer Camouflage Battalion. Enlisted in the service on 4-3-1942 at age 32. He died March 13, 1974. These three knives are some of the most beautiful examples of theatre made knives by GI’s. Utilizing salvaged material from downed aircraft, knives like these would often incorporate plexiglas, aluminum, etc. Herbert took great pride in these, and it shows in the quality. 1) The largest knife is marked with his stylized initials on the cross guard “H.J.M.” and his army S.N. 36398972 on the other side. Blade 9.5” long double edged, still sharp. Overall length 15”. Sheath is heavily decorated with his name, SN and partial address in Chicago carved on back. Secured w/snap. 2) Fighting knife size also marked with his initials “ H.J.M.” on one side. Number “16138799” on back. Blade 7.5” long, double edged, still sharp. Overall length 12.25”. Leather sheath heavily decorated. “H.J.M.” scrawled on face behind knife. 3) Smallest knife is unmarked. Blade 4.25” long and 8.25” overall. Tip is rounded, blade still very sharp. Leather sheath also heavily decorated. Repair made to belt loop opening. Please see photos for details.
