USN Silverware In Cedar Box Mid 20th C - Mixed collection of US Navy flatware. Late WWI through WWII. This collection of silvered metal flatware has a nice selection of nine fork designs, all USN marked. The Period of the 1920’s and 1930’s for the US Navy meant refits and modernization for the fleet. Cage masts were replaced with tripod masts. Outdated caliber guns were replaced with modern anti-aircraft pieces, and even the flatware in the mess halls changed. Moving away from overly ornate designs to the simple functional lines, the forks, spoons and knives went through a transitionary period. This grouping is one that has many examples of this evolution. Included in this grouping are: 1) 10 salad forks. All approx. 7.5” long. Multiple styles. 2) 5 dinner forks. 7.5” long. 3) 8 dinner knives. One is a smaller handle style. 4) 3 serving knives. 8” long. None marked with Navy marks. 5) 14 teaspoons. 6” long. 6) 16 dessert spoons. 5.75” long. 7) 21 dinner/soup spoons. 6.75”. 1 of these is marked “Grace Line”. Nearly all are marked “U.S.N.” in this lot, with the “Grace Line” dinner/soup spoon. All come in a modern cedar storage box. 18”x11.5”x4.5”.
