Bidspirit auction | Antique Trapper and Bladesmith Tool
Antique Trapper and Bladesmith Tool Lot - This specialized collection features a rugged assortment of 19th and early 20th-century utility tools, headlined by a Robert Sorby ”80” Cast Steel long knife with a distinctive kangaroo or animal touchmark. The lot includes a unique Hide Dresser cleverly repurposed from a wagon spring (c. 1890), and an iron trap stamped ”VON DER CRONE”. Also present is a heavy hook-blade billhook marked ”P.G.” within a rectangular frame and a long-handled barking or scraping tool. These pieces represent the quintessential ”make-do” ingenuity of the frontier era, showcasing professional Sheffield steel alongside blacksmith-forged implements. All items exhibit significant age-related oxidation, surface pitting, and wear to the wooden and cord-wrapped handles, though they remain structurally sound. Hide Dresser: H 2”, W 25.75”, D 1”.
