Paul Losche German Jazz Band Orchestrion (ca. 1928) - Paul Losche German Jazz Band Orchestrion ca. 1928. During the early 20th century, Paul Losche, known as the Leipzig Orchestrion Works, produced a wide variety of pianos and orchestrions in factories in and around Leipzig, Germany. They were also very well known for private labeling instruments for other manufacturers, and as such their products are not as well known to collectors. This example of a Losche orchestrion is their Jazz Band Piano, made in 1928. Bearing a striking resemblance to the Popper ”Happy-Jazzband” orchestrion, this instrument has piano with mandolin in the bottom cabinet, and drums, cymbals and percussion in the top cabinet. Walnut cabinet with original Losche decal, applied carvings to top and bottom cabinet, and painted bass drum head with 3 jazz musicians. The cabinet is showing an earlier refinishing with a deep rich finish that has aged well. The green cloth in the upper cabinet is replaced, the drum head appears original, the overall cosmetics show little wear. The instrument plays well, was restored earlier mechanically and continues to play well. A different sound from a jazz orchestrion when you use the right roll. Includes 24 music rolls.
