Bidspirit auction | Original 58-Key Gebr. Wellershaus Fairground

Original 58-Key Gebr. Wellershaus Fairground Carousel Organ with Conductor Automaton - This 58-key fairground organ was built by the renowned Gebr. Wellershaus Orgelfabrik of Mulheim an der Ruhr (Saarn), Germany, and dates from the early 20th century. The organ has been in the current owner's family for over 50 years and was used as the musical centrepiece of their travelling carousel, which the family operated on the fairground circuit. It is an original Wellershaus organ and retains its impressive historic character. A particularly interesting feature is the pair of round drum housings, specifically designed for installation and use within a carousel. The richly decorated wooden facade features elaborate carved and polychrome ornamentation, including rococo-style scrollwork, acanthus leaves and floral cartouches. At the centre is an animated conductor figure holding a baton, surrounded by an impressive arrangement of polished display pipes. The organ is equipped with integrated percussion, including bass drum, snare drum and cymbals, creating the powerful musical presentation expected from a large traditional German fairground organ. Included with the organ are three large endless music books and approximately 20 regular organ music books, providing an extensive selection of music. A rare opportunity to acquire an impressive and highly decorative original Wellershaus fairground organ with more than half a century of documented family ownership and a genuine history of use with a travelling carousel. The trailer in which the organ is currently installed is not included with the organ but is available for purchase separately at an additional cost. Dimensions (H x W x D): 244 x 264 x 106 cm.
