"The Political Year in Pictures" - Antisemitic Caricatures - Booklets 1-2 - France, 1900-1901

L'Annee politique en images album de l'intransigeant - "Album of the political year in photos of the uncompromising" - two albums of antisemitic caricatures summarizing the political year in France - booklets 1-2. France, years 1900, 1901 - antisemitic caricatures on the background of the acquittal of Alfred Dreyfus and the celebrations of Jewish society in France. Rare.

In the booklets, hundreds of color caricatures by the illustrator J.BELON on full pages, reviewing the political year in France, accompanied by short descriptions. Extensive reference to the Dreyfus affair at its end after his complete acquittal (especially in booklet no. 1 summarizing the year 1900). The acquittal of Dreyfus is described in them as a disaster for France, and the antisemitic message is that Dreyfus is the one who gave the Jews a position of power they never had before, and France is going to pay a heavy price for it - in one of the caricatures Dreyfus is seen riding a horse as part of a "Jewish horse riding competition" and the caption: "Lone rider", there is a caricature of "The Dance of the Money Sound" expressing the victory of Dreyfus and the Jews, (on the cover of booklet no. 1 is an illustration of Dreyfus leaving prison), and more. There are also antisemitic caricatures on the background of the Panama affair. The issues are written and illustrated in an antisemitic tone accusing the Jews of the political disasters that befell French society. In one caricature a Jew is seen in a zoo in front of a cage of monkeys with the caption: "It's still true that they are more beautiful than me". Another caricature under the title "The Legion of Israel" shows a group of Jews standing in line to receive a badge of honor and the antisemitic caption: "To the great noses the homeland is grateful", and many more.

Both issues have a preface by HENRI ROCHEFORT in which he explains that the exaggerated ugliness of the characters in the caricatures corresponds to their true nature in reality.

Booklets 1-2 are complete. Original illustrated covers. Reinforcements with paper gluing on the spine of issue no. 2. Tears in the back of booklet number 2 in the upper and lower part of the cover. Stains in both issues. Overall condition good - moderate.
