Ration card for the purchase of white flour for children. Zagreb (the fascist Croatian state), 1943 - Karta za bijelo brašno za djecu - Ration card for the purchase of white flour for children, issued in Zagreb (capital of then-Croatia), 1943 – during the period of the fascist Independent State of Croatia (NDH). This official ration card belonged to Marica Vodopija (Consumer No. 342722), and was issued by the Gradsko Poglavarstvo u Zagrebu – Zagreb City Council. It bears an ink stamp from Stjepan Radošević, a general goods store located at 53 Tržaška Street, Zagreb. This Croatian children's ration card from 1943 was issued during the rule of the NDH, a Nazi puppet state led by Ante Pavelić, head of the Ustaše, a nationalist-fascist movement aligned with Nazi Germany. Under Ustaše rule, the regime carried out a reign of terror targeting Jews, Serbs, Roma, and political opponents. Due to the war, occupation, and continued clashes with Tito's partisans, the economy collapsed, and the civilian population suffered from severe shortages of food, fuel, and basic goods. To address the shortages, a strict rationing system was implemented, as in many other European countries. Citizens were issued ration cards for staple goods such as flour, bread, meat, soap, oil, and more. This card allowed parents to purchase white flour for their children during a time of intense food scarcity and tight rationing. Folds open to 15x10 cm. Ration coupons remain intact for the months of July–December 1943. Very good condition.
