This edition of Cité-Soir commemorates the first anniversary of the liberation of Paris from Nazi occupation (August 25, 1944). The main image shows the iconic moment when partisans and city residents lean over the Barricades wall, where portraits of Hitler and his deputies were hung as symbolic targets representing the defeat of the Nazi enemy ahead of the city’s liberation. The photo is accompanied by a heroic description of how Paris, for the fourth time in its history, freed itself from tyranny and oppression. The front page also features historic photographs depicting scenes from Free France—some taken by the Seeberger agency during the liberation of the city.
