”So That We Do Not Forget” – a rare documentation of the Italian partisans' struggle against the Nazi occupier. Turin, 1945 – first edition - Per non dimenticare – “So That We Do Not Forget” by Franco Chiorino – a young Italian partisan who served in the local resistance, edited by ANPI (The National Association of Italian Partisans), Turin, 1945 – first edition. Foreword by Member of Parliament Franco Moranino, himself a prominent partisan. In Italian. Author: Franco Chiorino – a young Italian partisan who served in the local resistance under the leadership of Franco Bianco, to whose memory the book is dedicated. The work presents a detailed chronicle of the key facts and events that took place in the Biella region during the difficult days of the Nazi occupation, the Italian fascist regime, and the popular uprising. The Italian partisans played a central role in the struggle against the Nazi occupation and the fascist regime in northern Italy after September 1943. They operated within the framework of the armed resistance movement (la Resistenza), which was organized in mountainous and rural areas, and acted covertly against German forces and Mussolini’s puppet Republic of Salò (RSI). From Franco’s documentation, we learn how they endured extremely harsh conditions – severe shortages of weapons, hunger, rugged terrain, the constant threat of betrayal by collaborators, and collective punishment by the Germans, including executions and massacres of the civilian population. Among other events, the book documents the Nazi assault aimed at annihilating the core of the Italian resistance, in which 2,000 SS troops launched a coordinated attack on Piave from all directions, and the partisan victory that followed, after they joined with several local groups who helped them escape the Nazi forces and eliminate many of them along the way. The book is illustrated with drawings by Gariazzo, depicting the struggle of the Italian partisans. Rare. Only two copies listed in the WorldCat global library catalog – one in a library in Italy, and one in the New York Public Library. 129 pages. Very good condition.
