A special English edition of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf, richly illustrated throughout with numerous rare photographs, beginning with Adolf Hitler’s childhood, his early years in the Nazi Party, and many scenes from his formative period in Vienna. Includes images from the first street parades where crowds of German citizens welcomed the Führer, as well as numerous photographs of key figures in the early Nazi movement such as Joseph Goebbels, Rudolf Hess, Julius Streicher, and others. Also featured are images of Galician Jews, photographs from Palestine (accompanying sections in which Hitler expresses hatred toward the Jews of the Land of Israel in Mein Kampf), activities of the Hitler Youth, and many more. This is the “My Struggle” English edition published for internal use by the Red Cross, considered the most distinctive English-language edition of the book. A printed publisher's note on the front endpaper regarding the quality of the photographs states: “Readers may find that some of the pictures in this book are blurred and indistinct. The publishers therefore wish to explain that in most cases, reproductions have been made from the only originals available, namely faded small snapshots or old newspaper prints. It is felt, however, that subscribers will prefer these old, unique, and interesting pictures, poor as they are, to having none at all.” Mein Kampf - “My Struggle” – the first book by Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazi Party in Germany, written during his imprisonment at Landsberg Prison in 1924. In this volume, Hitler lays out his political, racist, and antisemitic ideology, as well as his plans for Germany’s future and the extermination of the Jews. (Already in Mein Kampf, Hitler explicitly revealed his diabolical intention toward the Jewish people: “The Jews are the corrupters of the nation and must be brought under poisonous gas.” A monstrous wish he would later carry out in practice during the terrible years of the Holocaust.). In the years following its publication, until 1930, only a few thousand copies were sold annually. The Nazi electoral success on October 13, 1930, brought the book increased attention, and by 1932, 80,000 copies had been sold. After Hitler’s rise to power, millions of copies were distributed. In 1933 alone, 1.5 million copies were sold, and starting in 1936, a popular edition was given as a wedding gift to every newlywed couple in Nazi Germany. By the end of the war, around ten million copies had been sold in Germany, and several million more worldwide. Thanks to the book’s massive sales, Hitler gave up his chancellor’s salary, living solely on the royalties he earned from Mein Kampf. 583 [1] pages. Complete edition including index pages.
