Instructions for Independence Day – Mizrachi Center ”Torah and Labor” in Munich, 1949 - “Mizrachi Torah and Labor Center in Munich – Instructions for ‘Yom HaAtzmaut’ issued by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel / In memory of Rabbi Meir Bar-Ilan” – For speakers at the memorial gathering held in the DP camps in Germany on 2 Iyar 5709 (1949), organized by the Mizrachi Torah and Labor Center, Munich. A set of Independence Day instructions typed on a typewriter. The Chief Rabbinate proclaims Yom HaAtzmaut to be a day of praise, feasting, and joy, during which Tachanun is omitted, and lists additional halachic rulings for the day. These include emphasis on giving gifts to the poor, reciting songs and praises, and special additions to prayer services. An especially noteworthy clause appears: “Concerning weddings and haircuts on this day, the Chief Rabbinate will rule when Jerusalem, both the Old and the New City—is returned to Israel.” Also included are two pages in Yiddish commemorating Rabbi Meir Bar-Ilan, who passed away in Nissan 5709 (1949), summarizing his lifelong contributions from his youth until his passing. These pages were intended to be read aloud by speakers at the DP camp assembly in Germany. [3] leaves. Filing holes. Good condition.
