The official guide to the Berlin Olympics held in the summer of 1936. The publishing house Reichssportverlag was the official body of the sports institutions in Germany during the Third Reich. The booklet was intended primarily for visitors and spectators who arrived in Berlin, and it served as a practical guide to the opening and closing ceremonies, the competition venues, and the organization of the Games. The booklet includes extensive explanations about the structure of the Olympics, the program of events, schedules of the competitions, maps of the Olympic facilities and of the city of Berlin, examples of admission tickets to the various sporting events, the official Olympic badges, photographs of the official medals issued for the Olympics, as well as the victory medals, information about the new Olympic stadium, and an overview of the sports disciplines and the participating teams. In addition, it contains numerous photographs of the stadiums, the Olympic Village, and the various structures built במיוחד for the Games, a list of the members of the Olympic Committee, the board of directors and management, a list of the participating countries, general instructions for the Olympic celebrations, instructions for the opening ceremony and the torch relay, the detailed sports program of each of the Olympic competitions including precise locations and dates, various diagrams of the Olympic stadium, information about the Olympic bell, as well as practical information regarding lodging, food and drink, and transportation within Berlin, to the stadium and from it, and more. The booklet is accompanied by a medallion with a ribbon bearing the letters B V G -  Bochumer Verein. Bochumer Verein was a large industrial company in the city of Bochum specializing in the production of steel and castings, particularly cast-steel bells. The large bell installed in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin for the 1936 Games was cast in the Bochumer Verein factories and became one of its ceremonial symbols. The bell bears the inscription “Olympische Glocke – Ich rufe die Jugend der Welt” (“The Olympic Bell – I call the youth of the world”). The Berlin Olympics held in 1936 were one of the most prominent international sporting events of the interwar period, at a time when Germany was already under the rule of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime. The Games, held between August 1 and 16, 1936, were intended not only as a celebration of international sport but also as a stage for demonstrating Germany’s power, organization, and modernity to the world.
