Published by La Platinogravure, Montrouge, France, 1943. Rare. An illustrated propaganda booklet in the form of an antisemitic narrative story. At the opening of the booklet appears a Jew with stereotypical facial features calling out to the French while speaking into a microphone shaped like a Star of David: “Frenchmen, Frenchmen, I am speaking to you asking you to destroy your wheat in order to destroy Germany.” The French hear the Jewish announcer and wonder: “But what will happen if we run out of wheat, ” and the father replies to his son: “We will say that the Germans are taking everything.” A small boy innocently asks his mother: “But with all these crop fires we will have less bread, ” and the mother replies: “Yes, but it will so delight Messrs. Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin.” The booklet appeals to the common man with the plea: “Worker! Protect the bread of your children, ” while the Jew is presented as the monstrous figure behind the plot to burn the wheat - there appears a caricature of a French worker bound in chains against the background of a fat Jew holding sacks of money, alongside the caption: “The sole objective of their masters is the complete destruction of France, the first condition for its subjugation by international Jewish capitalism.” The booklet was published as an attack against calls to destroy French wheat crops in order to prevent supplies from reaching the Germans after the occupation. The propaganda portrays those advocating such acts as traitors to France and as servants simultaneously of “international Jewish capitalism” and Soviet communism - a combination characteristic of fascist and Nazi propaganda in Vichy France.
