Collection of issues of the children's newspaper ”Our Family.” Hamburg - Berlin, 1934 - 1937 - ”Unser Familienblatt”  -  Youth Supplement to the ”Israelitisches Familienblatt” - ”Our Family Page”  -  the youth supplement to the ”Jewish Family Newspaper”. A collection of 17 issues of the children's supplement (Kinderbeilage) to the principal newspaper Israelitisches Familienblatt (”Jewish Family Newspaper”). Hamburg - Berlin, issues published between 1934-1937. Accompanied by numerous illustrations and photographs throughout the various issues. The collection includes Issue No. 1, published in anticipation of Hanukkah on November 29, 1934 - the first issue of the periodical. German and some Hebrew. Rare.  Issues and years: 1934: Issue No. 1 - published on November 29 - the first issue in the series, opening with the moving introduction: ” At long last, it is here, the youth supplement of the Family Newspaper... From now on, it will be your regular companion... To ensure that all of you will join us, we want to tell you from the outset that it makes no difference whether you belong to a religious community or not. Wherever you may be, we wish to extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you. Only if we learn to stand together from an early age, boys and girls alike, can we become good Jews...” . The entire issue was dedicated to Hanukkah and is filled with stories, poems, quizzes, and articles about the festival of Hanukkah. 1935 - Issues: Issue No. 4 - Centered around an interesting story about the legend of the Wandering Jew from a Jewish perspective, as well as a comic about an Eastern European Jew. Issue No. 5 - Includes an interesting article on the works of the Berlin artist Edith Samuel.  Issue No. 18 - Includes an assignment for children, ”How Do You Imagine Palestine?” The issue invited its young readers to send descriptions of the Land of Israel as it was being rebuilt. The children's drawings and descriptions appear in Issue No. 3 of 1936, which is included in this collection: ”In Palestine there are many trees, nearly all of them bearing fruit...”, ”There are Jews standing by the Western Wall; they have buried their heads deep into the Wall...”, and more.  Issue No. 12 - An issue devoted entirely to Jewish sports - featuring a thematic article on a Jewish sports club, as well as ”The Residents of Sterbfritz Learn to Play Football, ” and more. Issues Nos. 14, 17. 1936 - Issues: Issues Nos. 3, 4, 6, 7 (a special issue published in honor of Tu BiShvat, also containing an article on the character of the Arabs: ”People speak a great deal about Arabs nowadays, certainly in Germany as well, but it is impossible to make sweeping generalizations about the Arabs...”), 8. 1937 - Issues: Issues Nos. 3, 5 - Issue No. 5 includes an interesting article on the film ”Hatikvah” - a documentary on the growth and development of Jewish settlement in Palestine; Issue No. 6 centers on a story about the ascent to Masada. Also included are Issues Nos. 7 and 8. The various issues dealt with the world of Jewish children in Germany - holidays, school, the sports field, quizzes, and everyday life, as well as topics such as the yearning to immigrate to the Land of Israel, the rebuilding of the Land of Israel, coping with antisemitism, confronting the Arab enemy in the Land of Israel, the Jewish family in Germany, and more. Following Hitler's rise to power, the Jewish press in Germany was subjected to strict censorship by the Nazi Ministry of Propaganda, yet it was permitted to continue operating exclusively for the Jewish community (while being prohibited from being sold to non-Jews). During this period, the newspaper became an essential source of information for German Jewry, providing news about emigration opportunities, Hebrew studies, and life in the Land of Israel. The children's supplement presented here was intended to connect the younger generation in Germany with the Zionist ideal and the realities of life in the Land of Israel. The newspaper was permanently shut down by the Nazi regime immediately following the Kristallnacht pogroms in November 1938. Rare.
