French Pocket Calendar for the Three Religions—Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Dijon, 1934 - Pocket diary French almanac for the year 1934, incorporating the Jewish, Muslim, and Christian calendars. Issued as a complimentary gift (”Offert par”) by the Pharmacie du Coin du Miroir in Dijon, France. The proprietors are identified as ”Boguet Père et Fils” (Boguet Father and Son), First-Class Pharmacists of Dijon. Extremely rare. The Jewish calendar (Calendrier Israélite) lists the dates of the Jewish festivals and fast days according to the Gregorian calendar for 1934, including: the Fast of Esther (February 28), Purim (March 1), Passover (March 31), Lag BaOmer, Shavuot, the Fast of the Seventeenth of Tammuz, Tisha B'Av, Rosh Hashanah (September 10), the Fast of Gedaliah, Yom Kippur (Expiation), Sukkot (Tabernacles), Simchat Torah (Allégresse), Hanukkah (Dédicace), and the Fast of the Tenth of Tevet. The Muslim calendar (Calendrier Musulman) likewise records the principal Islamic observances for the year, including Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr (Petit Beïram), Eid al-Adha (Grand Beïram), Ashura, Mawlid al-Nabi (the Prophet's Birthday), and other significant dates. The civil and Christian calendar presents the months in a conventional daily format. Each day is accompanied by the abbreviated weekday and the name of the Christian saint commemorated on that date (for example, January 2: St. Basil). The almanac also includes precise indications of the phases of the moon, Full Moon (PL), New Moon (NL), First Quarter (PQ), and Last Quarter (DQ), together with a table of the movable Christian feasts for 1934, including Easter (April 1), Ascension, Pentecost, and the Feast of Joan of Arc. Also included is a section of computistical and astronomical data (Éléments du Comput), providing traditional calendrical calculations such as the Golden Number, the Solar Cycle, and the Epact. The almanac further records the official dates of the spring, summer, autumn, and winter equinoxes and solstices, and concludes with a practical table listing the weekdays and dates of France's principal public holidays for the following eight years (1935–1942).
