Official Calling Card Signed by the Jewish Jurist Benjamin (Ben) Ferencz - Official calling card of the Jewish jurist Benjamin B. Ferencz, the Chief Prosecutor for the United States at the Nuremberg Trials (who passed away in 2023 at the age of 103), signed in his own hand: ”Ben Ferencz.” The front of the card features a photograph of Ben Ferencz delivering his acceptance speech upon receiving the prestigious Harvard Law Medal of Freedom from Harvard Law School, where he studied law. Along the lower margin appears the inscription: ”HARVARD LAW MEDAL OF FREEDOM.” On the right is the motto that became inseparably associated with Ferencz throughout his lifelong campaign for the establishment of the International Criminal Court: ”LAW NOT WAR.” Ferencz devoted his life to the principle that dictators and architects of war should be brought before courts of law rather than settling conflicts on the battlefield. The reverse of the card bears his full name, his addresses in New Rochelle, New York, and Florida, together with his personal email address and the official website bearing his name. This side likewise features his enduring motto: ”LAW NOT WAR.” Benjamin B. Ferencz (1920–2023) was only twenty-seven years old when he was appointed Chief Prosecutor for the United States in the Einsatzgruppen Trial at Nuremberg (1947), in which the commanders of the Nazi mobile killing units responsible for the murder of more than one million Jews in Eastern Europe were prosecuted. It was the first case of his legal career, and he secured the conviction of all 24 defendants. Fourteen were sentenced to death, of whom four were ultimately executed. In later decades, Ferencz became one of the world's leading advocates for the rule of international law and for the creation of the International Criminal Court. From 1985 to 1996, he served as a Visiting Professor of International Law at Pace University in New York. 9×6 cm. Very good condition.
