”We Killed the Jews Wherever We Encountered Them” — A Virulently Antisemitic Propaganda Pamphlet by Dr. Robert Ley, Senior Nazi Official. Berlin, 1941. A virulently antisemitic propaganda pamphlet calling for participation in the struggle to eradicate what it describes as the ”Jewish bacillus.” Published by the Deutsche Arbeitsfront (German Labour Front) Press, Berlin, 1941. First edition. Extremely rare. ”The Jew is our sworn enemy, for he, the Jew, is the master of distortion, the master of lies and deceit, and likewise the master of hypocrisy, disguises, and masks. When the German people, as the embodiment of the Nordic race, embrace National Socialism, they thereby embrace truth and reason... The Jew's worldview is one of superstition, falsehood, and mysticism. These two worlds, the German world and the Jewish world, are each founded upon the distinct racial character of those who bear their blood. In the German is found the highest proportion of Nordic blood, whereas the Jew represents the clearest expression of the greatest possible racial mixture...” (From the introduction.) This virulently antisemitic publication presents the Jews as a parasitic antithesis to the so-called perfect Aryan race and as a ”bacillus” threatening to achieve global domination by spreading chaos and destroying civilization, an alleged danger that, according to Ley, must be dealt with by the harshest possible means. Ley argues that the Jews are incapable of creating a culture or nation of their own and therefore seek to weaken, fragment, and erase the identities of Europe's nation-states, transforming them into a characterless ”melting pot of peoples” (Völkerbrei) that can be more easily manipulated and economically exploited. The Second World War is thus presented not as a geopolitical conflict but as an existential racial struggle between what he portrays as authentic European civilization and an alleged worldwide Jewish conspiracy to destroy nationalism. As Ley writes: ”The parasite is the strongest expression of biological chaos. Even the molecules and atoms, the very building blocks of the blood, have been shattered in Jewry through constant and repeated mixing and the inevitable crossbreeding of these hybrids, so that they now exist only as fragments of their former form and nature.” Ley depicts the Jews as a race fundamentally opposed to every stable social order and every properly constituted nation, allegedly incapable of developing a healthy sense of community except by assimilating into other peoples and creating disorder. According to this conspiratorial worldview, their supposed parasitic nature inevitably leads to internationalism, understood by Ley as a vehicle for Jewish domination over all nations. He claims that the Jew's objective is the destruction of nation-states, the undermining of national authority, and the creation of an international phantom state: ”From Moses to Karl Marx, it is always the same, the same eternal Jew, the same dream of Jewish world domination, and the same objective: chaos among the nations of the world.” (p. 8). Ley continues his antisemitic diatribe by claiming that the Jew embodies everything contrary to the natural order. In contrast, he presents Adolf Hitler as Germany's savior, asserting that Hitler was the first leader in German history to adopt a policy aimed at dismantling the Jewish people from within and ultimately bringing about their complete destruction. Reflecting the confidence with which Nazi propagandists wrote at this stage of the war, Ley openly declares: ”The parliaments have been dissolved, the Freemasons have been completely crushed, and Pauline universalism has been rendered powerless. National Socialism has mercilessly eradicated internationalism in Germany. We killed the Jews wherever we encountered them, and now, thank God, we have reached the point where the greater part of the Jewish population has emigrated from Germany or is resignedly awaiting the moment when it can leave. The Jew no longer exerts any influence over politics, culture, the economy, or the welfare of the people. His party organizations, associations, and capitalist instruments have been destroyed and shattered once and for all. The Jewish-internationalist poison has been burned out of Germany and extirpated root and branch. Only in this way could the Führer build the German national community. Every germ, every seed, and every fungus of party division has been eradicated from the German people, from its classes, estates, social strata, factions, tribes, and clans. Germany and its people have been liberated from the international Jewish poison. This is the great and almost inconceivable political achievement of National Socialism after scarcely eight years of rule under our Führer, Adolf Hitler...”.
