A comprehensive historical album richly illustrated with numerous archival photographs documenting the Allied leaders during the war, the major theaters of combat, color campaign maps, chronological tables, and detailed surveys covering every stage of the Second World War. The volume traces the outbreak of the war, the principal campaigns in Europe and the Pacific, the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps, and the final Allied victory, with the aim of preserving the memory of both heroism and suffering for future generations. The front cover features a striking illustration of a battlefield cross, a rifle planted upright in the ground with a soldier's helmet resting upon its stock, the universal symbol commemorating a fallen soldier. Rising behind it is a towering atomic mushroom cloud, evoking the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which brought the war to its final conclusion in 1945. This edition was distributed as a complimentary publication by the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). At the beginning of the volume is a printed letter on the organization's official stationery, signed by its National Commander at the time, William G.
