Large Photograph of Queen Victoria During Her Period of Mourning Following the Death of Her Husband, Prince Albert - Large gelatin silver photograph of Queen Victoria in her later years. Second half of the 19th century. The photograph depicts the Queen seated in mourning attire, in partial profile, on an ornate armchair with carved wooden details. This was during her period of mourning following the death of her husband, when she set aside the Imperial State Crown with its colorful gemstones in 1861. The Queen wears a dark black dress and holds a walking stick in her right hand, with a short white lace veil resting over her gathered hair. Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert (Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha), died on December 14, 1861, at the age of only 42. His tragic death plunged Queen Victoria into profound mourning that continued until her own death, during which she wore black for approximately 40 years. Size: 26x31 cm. Very good condition.
