REVUE JUIVE DE BELGIQUE -'Overview of Belgian Jewry' - a rare Jewish publication towards the end of the war Issue No. 1 - March 1945

REVUE JUIVE DE BELGIQUE - 'Overview of Belgian Jewry'. Issue No. 1. A Jewish magazine published in March 1945, only two months before the end of the war, and deals with the severe blow which the Jewish people suffered in the war. Brussels (Belgium), 1945. French. Rare.

Various writers from Belgian Jewry participated in the magazine, and it was written under the atmosphere of grief and the severe shock that the Jewish people felt over the murder of millions of their brothers. There are passages that describe the horrors of the Nazis and the Jewish heroism in contrast to them: "While the barbarian is taking the Jew to the gas chamber, we want the man to enter the study room... In June 1942, the obligation to wear a yellow patch was imposed. This prepared us for the end of the Jewish front. The Star of David turns us into cattle destined for slaughter...". Among other things, there is testimony about a Jew who was executed by hanging, a comprehensive article about anti-Semitism in England during the World War by J. B., horrifying testimonies about groups of Jews in Belgium taken by the SS for the slaughter, a section appears describing the abuse of the Jews: "Like hungry dogs ... we run in circles...", a section appears on "Dictatorship or Poetic Art 1945" which describes the harsh scenes of children who died of starvation, a long essay against the Nazi racial theory, an instructive section about the devotion of Israel in all the past and ongoing pogroms, a review of Belgian Jewry by the editor David Scheinert, and more. The names of the other authors and subjects appear on the cover (see photo).

Only three copies of this magazine appear in the global Library Catalog world cat. One of them that appears in the National Library is one of the continuation issues without a year mark. As mentioned, before us is the first issue that was published in this magazine.
