Pedro de Leiria is a native of that city, having been born in 1525, having received the Seraphic habit from the Province of Portugal in August 1543, at just 18 years old. Francisco de Alenquer and Commissioner of the Azores Islands to reform the convents of friars and nuns, arriving in Angra in July 1568.
