MS.

A very curious copier of various documents, most of which are letters related to episodes in political history. The copier has several letters from the diplomat Alexandre de Gusmão, an important political figure from the first half of the 18th century, as well as royal letters, documents from the Holy See and various personalities from national politics. Chronologically, the documents date back to the 17th century, with the vast majority dating from the end of the first half of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century.

At the end of the volume, another type of documents appears, in particular several scattered texts on cultural themes - e.g. «Writers who deserve the approval of the wise» - or a set of «Thought».

At the beginning of the volume we find the title “Prologue”, in a total of 4 blank folios, denoting the intention of giving coherence to the volume.

In pencil, there is a modern indication, probably made by the professional who sold the volume, indicating that it is a copy made by Cardinal Saraiva “as indicated by the seller, a descendant of the prelate’s family.” Given many of the themes compiled - political, cultural and religious matters of the Archdiocese of Braga and Coimbra -, and the chronology of the documents, it is a possibility, but we were unable to obtain any diplomatic evidence to certify such a statement.
