First edition of the Portuguese translation of this classic of African exploration literature. In April 1874, Stanley decided to continue the work left unfinished by Livingstone. His intention was to circumnavigate Lake Victoria, visit the tributaries of the Upper Nile, and continue westward, demarcating the dividing lines of the Nile watercourse and the rivers that flow into the Congo.
