Plan of the small fortified town of Swibuschin (present-day Świebodzin, in the historical region of Silesia), shown as an oval nucleus encircled by crenellated walls with towers and gates, surrounded by moats and roads. Inside, the central square, parish church, convents and houses aligned along the streets can be distinguished; outside, gardens, vineyards and cultivated fields, as well as some isolated buildings and paths leading to the town gates. At top, banner title in German, accompanied by a coat of arms with a black eagle; at upper left, cartouche referring to the patronage of Maximilian, local duke; at lower left, empty cartouche intended for inscriptions; at right, small alphabetical legend identifying the principal buildings. On verso, Latin text under the heading SVIBVSIVM , describing the town’s location in Silesia, its political and ecclesiastical history and its modern fortifications, with page number 59, belonging to volume VI of the urban atlas Civitates orbis terrarum by Georg Braun and Frans Hogenberg.
