Tvndera; Oitinvm (Tønder e Eutin, Schleswig-Holstein). Colónia, c. 1598. - [TØNDER; EUTIN (SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN)]. Tvndera; Oitinvm. Georg BRAUN; Frans HOGENBERG (eds.). [Cologne, Georg Braun & Frans Hogenberg, c. 1598]. Engraving; 425 × 535 mm (sheet). Plate with two views of the far north of the Holy Roman Empire. In the upper register, Eutin (Oitinvm), a lake town organised around the castle and an oval ring of walls and moats, lies amid extensive woods and roads, with cartouches and coats of arms identifying the locality. In the lower register, Tønder (Tvndera), set among dykes and canals, has houses aligned along the main streets and a small river port with boats; to the right stands a detached fort/castle with bastioned outline. The composition underlines the simultaneously agricultural and maritime character of these Jutland and Holsatian settlements.
