Coldinga (Kolding, Jutlândia do Sul). Colónia, c. 1598. - [KOLDING (DENMARK)]. Coldinga. Georg BRAUN; Frans HOGENBERG (eds.). [Cologne, Georg Braun & Frans Hogenberg, c. 1598]. Engraving; 425 × 535 mm (sheet). View of Kolding, at the head of the fjord of the same name. The urban fabric shows a regular grid, tree-lined streets and numerous gardens and orchards, surrounded by walls, ramparts and moats. On the hilltop, the Koldinghus complex dominates, with palatial massing and bastioned outworks; to the right a detached redoubt is also visible. In the foreground, the water surface with sailing vessels underlines the port function; bridges and locks link the different sectors of the enclosure. At the top runs a heraldic ribbon with the title, and at the bottom a large cartouche bears a numbered legend identifying the main churches, gates and civic buildings. Text printed on the verso in Latin under the heading COLDINGA, followed by the poem COLDINGA LECTORI; pagination “32”, from volume V of the Civitates orbis terrarum.
