In the upper register, Saarburg stretches along the river Saar at the foot of a spur crowned by the castle and defensive towers; the urban frontage shows the parish church, rows of houses and a bridge over the river, with hills and vineyards in the background. In the lower register, Palatiolum (Pfalzel), a small walled borough on the banks of the Moselle, appears as a compact enclosure with gates and turrets, surrounded by cultivated fields and vines; in the foreground, groups of figures provide scale. Central and lateral cartouches identify each view. Text printed on the verso in Latin under the headings SARBVRGVM and PALATIOLUM vulgo Pfalzel, with historical and ecclesiastical notices; pagination “26”, from volume V of the Civitates orbis terrarum.
