The dense urban fabric is organised in winding streets around the great church/cathedral with its prominent towers; to the right stands the star-shaped citadel, linked to the enclosure by a bridge and counterguard. Fortified gates, bridges and agricultural suburbs complete the scene. At the top, a central cartouche in French (La ville de Cambray) is flanked by coats of arms; in the lower left corner, a cartouche with alphabetical legend of the main buildings. Date “1598” engraved on the lower frame. Text printed on the verso in Latin under the heading CAMERACVM, with historical and ecclesiastical notes; pagination “21”, from volume V of the Civitates orbis terrarum.
